Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications along with counseling to manage substance use disorders.
Here at Family Circle of Care we offer MAT for opioid use disorder in a friendly, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment.
The medication we use is buprenorphine which helps curb cravings and stop withdrawal. This in combination with psychotherapy has been proven to be very effective in achieving long term abstinence from opiates.
This treatment is also considered safe during pregnancy. MAT helps mothers who use opioids during pregnancy to protect mom and the growing baby. Mothers who are able to cut back and even stop opioid use will provide their infant the best chance for a healthy delivery.
We at FCC are committed to providing MAT services in a individualized, patient-centered approach. Ongoing treatment is provided at our Houston Street Clinic, led by Stacy Fogle, FNP-C.
Frequency depends on the patient and may be weekly or monthly depending on dose adjustments. Counseling is available through the mental health clinicians at Family Circle of Care.
Although not offered at FCC, we will provide resources and referrals for intensive outpatient and inpatient treatment, if needed.
